Artist Statement

Kelsie is a young artist from Melbourne Victoria, who loves taking natural photos and creating sculptures.

An idea always starts with a personal feeling, a moment in time, a memory, a facial expression or personal struggle. These ideas are the starting point to a sculptural ending.

My particular materials I am interested in working with plaster, wood, clay, silicon and resin. These materials are all very different from each other, as well as having many different processes put in place to create the outcome.

Plaster starts off with chalky or dusty touch but once water is added to it turns into a smooth silk like texture.

Wood is my anger I realised. It takes such a belting and yet it still it stands strong, the rhythmic pattern created when repeating the process of hitting the hammer on the chisel. It is my rock of materials which can have thick rough edges or it could be cut or sanded to have a smooth texture.

Clay begins smooth but then it dries to become a crumbly dry mess in my hands.

Silicon is the scientific side to me the volume of mass which needs to be measured to ensure that the silicon sets. Silicon is stringy in the way it flexes and then snaps back into place.

Resin, is my hand warmer, my bundle of joy, glass but not glass and my favourite material to this point in time.

Why resin?  Resin captures all the detail of the shape which I have created.

This is an attempt to explain my feelings and the touch which is created during to the process of creating the art work.
